Water puppetry is a type of Vietnamese folk art that developed very early about over 13.000 years today ago. It is a typical creation of ancient Vietnamese people.This type is often performed on holidays, village festivals, happy days, and New Year's, using puppets to perform tricks and plays on the water. Water puppetry is also considered a unique intangible cultural feature of the Vietnamese people. Using the water surface as a stage (called a puppet house or water pavilion), behind it is a backdrop to create a performance stage just like a Vietnamese communal house or pagoda, surrounded by decorated flags,paper fan, parasols,votive gate.. In the background of folk music are the sounds of gongs, drums, flutes, The puppets are carved from pine wood, then sharpened, polished and decorated with many different paint colors. They are called TEU. The artisans behind the screen control the TEU through a system of poles and wires, telling stories about the daily activities of farmers, using images and skillful movements, with lovely and funny images.They will tell stories such as: Lion dance, dragon dance, palanquin procession, buffalo fighting, martial arts...
